This was a quick mid-week discovery. It satisfied both of our cravings — broccoli (for one of us) and making broccoli new (for the other).
We’ve made it a few times now and let’s just say that even the one of us who said s/he was sick of broccoli (hint: it’s the vegetarian who quickly tires of vegetables) is reinvigorated and ready to make (and eat) some more! Give it a shot:
Broccoli
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp butter
1/2 tsp chili oil
1 bunch brocolli
2 tsp sesame seeds
2 tbsp water
and sauce:
2 tbsp soy
1 1/2 tsp water
1 1/2 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp miso
1/2 tsp wasabi
1/4 tsp rice wine vinegar
Start by prepping the broccoli. Then add 1 tbsp of sesame oil, butter and olive oil and 1/2 tsp chili oil into a saute pan (with a lid). Toss in the broccoli, add the water and cover. Cook over low heat until they are softened — about 15 minutes. (Hold the sesame seeds.)
In the mean time, combine all of the sauce ingredients. Remove the lid once the broccoli looks softened (but not mushy). Pour on the sauce, throw on the sesame seeds, turn up the heat to medium-high and cook for another 3 minutes or so.
Whether you are craving broccoli (or not), we hope that this will surprise and satisfy.

Hmm, i wonder if dad will eat broccoli if i made it this way? He hates the stuff …
Yeah — we’ve been finding that Miso is a pretty fun flavor to add to things — maybe give it a try?
He won’t even try brussel sprouts, though … I’ll have to pair it with some expensive liquor, maybe, hahaha.
YESSSSSS!
I like this recipe. What kind of miso did you use?
We used a white miso paste. I forget what it is called!
Great recipe! I had everything laid out when I was preparing it, and we ate it and loved it. Afterwards I realized I never even used the sesame seeds I had measured and laid out! I’m sure it would be even better with them, so we’re going to try it again. Thanks so much.
You liked it?? Coooool!! :D
this looks delicious! broccoli is my favorite so i’ll definitely give this recipe a try :)
