We are big red wine fans. It may have even been the Rioja on our first date that sold us on each other. We took a trip to Sonoma this past April, drank some of the best wines of our short wine-tasting-careers and came home the proud members of two wine clubs. We now receive 20 bottles a year.
We’ll be the first to say that red wine is not only for the fall and winter. We love it year round and will always pick it over a white option. That said, despite our wine surplus, we have been trying our hand at mixed drinks, as well. It all started when we went on a vacation to the Poconos. Our friend’s family owns a farmhouse and over two hundred acres of land. We spent our three day weekend hiking, tubing, cooking, drinking and eating.
While we were there we made Basil Gimlets and also Guadalajara Sours. Note: we muddled in jalapeno and cilantro to the basil gimlet base.
Now back at home, we’ve been trying our hand at making Salty Dogs:
(Nice and Strong) Salty Dogs
(Makes 1)
Kosher salt for the rim
Serve over ice
1/3 cup Vodka
1/2 cup Grapefruit Juice
Or this alternative.
Amanda’s-Easy on the Juice-Greyhound –
1/2 cup Vodka
1/4 cup Grapefruit Juice
1/4 cup tonic water
1 tbsp lime juice (or to taste)
1 tbsp lemon juice (or to taste)
Bottoms Up!
P.s. Red wine, we have not forsaken you.

We should make these when you visit! :D
So sold on red wine and salty dogs! My issue is when I start on a liter of one and finish the evening with a litter of the other!
Classic.
[...] summer we were on a Vodka and Gin kick — how can you go wrong with a refreshing Greyhound or Bee’s Knees? We kicked this summer off with new favorites, however — all things [...]
