Food + Blog = Restaurant?

It turns out that we have a mutual dream of one day owning a restaurant. We imagine a cozy spot with a small menu that changes often.  Diverse entrees would satisfy meat-eaters and vegetarians alike, and everything (we hope) would have a Zach and Amanda spin.

Luckily for us, we aren’t discouraged by the fact that neither of us has any formal training.  We don’t crack eggs with one hand, speedily julienne vegetables or make duck confit (or any other kind of confit for that matter). But we do like to cook, and we definitely like to eat. Thus the food.

We admit that we are dreamers and we realize that we aren’t actually anywhere near ready to open a restaurant, but it’s all right because there is no rush. In the meantime though, we want to make sure that our favorite bean recipe can be recreated, our peanut sauce has a starting place from which to be perfected and our roast chicken recipes continue to get more complex.  We hope to learn some of the ins and outs of cooking by taking the time to record our recipes, and making a point to think before we eat. Thus the blog.

Joining the community

We have been longtime readers of some of the foodblogs out there and wanted to make our own humble contributions to the online community of food-lovers.  We hope that one day people might actually read this thing. And after reading, maybe a few people may try making a recipe or two. And if it’s good, then maybe they’ll send us their comments, tips, and pictures.

And we imagine tasting our recipes with suggested changes and loving them. We imagine liking them so much that we publish them on the blog and bake a batch of cookies to send back as a thank you.

But we are getting ahead of ourselves again. Maybe none of this will ever happen.  Maybe we will never have readers and maybe we will never open a restaurant. But we can, at least, have a record of our adventures in the kitchen. So we will write this blog. And we will dream of one day opening our restaurant.

I love your mindful eating philosophy of: “making a point to think before we eat.” Will be curious to see how you integrate it into your blog entries.
